ALBERT RIERA: I WANT TO STAY AND FIGHT

The agent of Liverpool winger Albert Riera has dismissed speculation linking his client with a move away from Anfield. The Spanish international was reportedly the subject of a £5 million bid from Greek giants Olympiacos yesterday, however Angel Castell claims he is yet to receive any formal offers for the former Manchester City loanee and suggested Riera wanted to fight for his place at Liverpool.

Rafa Benitez has been told he will have no additional funds to buy players in the current transfer window, and will instead have to engineer a number of loan deals. In order to so, such is Liverpool’s fragile finances currently, the Liverpool manager must free up some wages for any additional signings and speculation has been rife that Riera was on the list of those surplus to Benitez’s requirements.

The winger, capped sixteen times by Spain, signed for Liverpool in September 2008 for £8 million from Espanyol and enjoyed a decent first season at Anfield. Thus far the 2009-2010 campaign has been heavily disrupted by a hamstring injury and a loss of form.

Earlier in the season Riera suggested he would look to leave the club should he not play more regularly because of a burning desire to play for Spain at the World Cup, yet Castell intimates the 27-year-old is only concentrating on getting fit and helping Liverpool resurrect an other wise disappointing season.

The agent told Sky Sports: “I have not heard from Olympiakos at all,”
