Riera Keen on Anfield

Liverpool winger Albert Riera has vowed to continue his career at Anfield after talks over a move to Spartak Moscow broke down.

The 27-year-old hit the headlines for a broadside on Spanish radio during which he described the club as a “sinking ship” and tore into the management style of Rafael Benitez on the eve of their Europa League last 16 tie with Lille a fortnight ago, which earned him a .three-day suspension from training.

Talks over a move to Moscow have stalled, with wage demands understood to be the divisive issue between the Russian outfit and the player’s representatives.

Ahead of tonight’s quarter final with Benfica, former Espanyol midfielder Riera has made a dramatic U-turn on his scathing comments by revealing to Marca that he hopes to be welcomed back from the Anfield brink to once again play for what he describes as “one of the best clubs in the world”.

"Negotiations with Spartak Moscow are stalled… my intention is to decide my future in the summer,” he is quoted as saying.

"I want to continue my career at Liverpool because it is one of the best clubs in the world.

“The feeling is spectacular, we have a great stadium and I feel very good at Liverpool... I speak with Fernando Torres and Reina and agree on the greatness of Liverpool."
