Albert Riera playing for FC Koper until 2018

Former Liverpool winger Albert Riera is currently playing at FC Koper in the Slovenian League with his contract expected to run until 2018. After having played all across Europe, the winger expects to end his playing career with the Slovenian club.

Premier League followers will most likely remember Albert Riera when he played for Liverpool from 2008 to 2010 under Rafael Benitez. He signed for the Merseyside club on 2008 transfer deadline day and went on to make 55 appearances for the club. He made his debut against Manchester United in a 2-1 win and managed to score his first goal a month later against Wigan Athletics in a 3-2 win. Albert Riera also followed by a goal against PSV Eindhoven in that season Champions League.

However his relationship turns sour with Rafael Benitez when he made some comments in the Spanish press regarding his first team playing opportunities as well the management style of Benitez. As a result, Albert Riera was suspended by Liverpool in 18 March 2010 and did not play again for the Reds.

He left Liverpool side in 2010 when he joined the Greek club, Olympiakos in a deal that was worth €6 million. He managed to make more than 30 appearances for the Greek club before ultimately moving to Galatasaray where he joined on a four-year contract. He made more than 75 appearances for the Turkish team where he scored 4 goals.

On the international front, Albert Riera made his debut for the Spanish national team in 2007 and scored in a 3-1 win on his first game against Danemark for the Euro 2008 qualifier. However, he failed to make it in the winning Spanish side of the Euro 2008 but was called again for 2 matches in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
